Feeling on edge does not have to cost you a nicer smile

There is a particular kind of frustration that comes with wanting your teeth to look better while dreading the very chair that would fix them. If that is you, you are in good company, and it is something we hear from Whyteleafe patients often. Wanting veneers and feeling anxious are not contradictions; they sit together perfectly normally.

What we try to change is the experience itself. Anxiety usually feeds on the unknown, so we take the unknown out of it. Your first visit is purely a chat, sitting upright and clothed in your everyday composure, where we listen to what bothers you and explain what veneers can and cannot do. Nothing is touched and nothing is decided on the spot.

When you do choose to go ahead, we move in small, named steps and we say out loud what is coming before it happens. You are allowed to pause at any moment, and asking for a breather is treated as completely normal rather than a problem.

What the treatment actually involves

Veneers are slim, custom shells, usually porcelain, that fit over the fronts of your teeth to refine their colour, shape or alignment. The reassuring detail for nervous patients is how conservative the work is: only a thin layer of enamel is shaped, and in some cases composite veneers can be added with little or no removal at all.

The journey runs over two to three appointments. We assess and plan, prepare gently under local anaesthetic, fit temporaries while your veneers are crafted, then bond the finished veneers and check your bite. Each visit is short and you always know roughly how long you will be sitting.

Porcelain veneers start from an indicative £995 per tooth, and with 0% finance through Tabeo the cost can be spread rather than met in one daunting lump.

One familiar face, start to finish

A lot of dental anxiety is really anxiety about strangers and surprises. We deal with that by keeping you with the same dentist throughout, so the person who plans your veneers is the one who prepares and fits them. By your last visit you are working with someone who already knows your worries and your mouth.

Coming up from Whyteleafe

Whyteleafe sits just south of us, so the run to Foxley Lane in Purley is a short one, mostly a straight drive north along Godstone Road through Kenley. Whether you set off from near Whyteleafe station, down towards Caterham or up the Kenley side, it is an easy trip, and arriving without a stressful journey behind you genuinely helps. There is free on-street parking right outside on Foxley Lane, so you are not circling the block before an appointment that already feels big.

Frequently asked questions

  • I get anxious just booking the appointment, is that normal?

Completely, and we are used to helping people who find even the phone call hard, so there is nothing here you need to apologise for.

  • Do I have to commit to anything at the first visit?

No, the first appointment is a conversation only, with no treatment and no obligation to proceed.

  • Will I be able to feel the preparation?

The teeth are numbed with local anaesthetic first, and we will not start shaping until you confirm the area feels properly numb.

  • Can I bring someone with me for support?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a partner or friend along to your consultation if that helps you feel steadier.

  • What happens if I need to stop partway through?

We stop the moment you ask, no explanation needed, because veneers are never something that has to be rushed.
