Knowing what is coming makes the whole thing easier

A lot of the uncertainty around veneers comes from not knowing how the process actually unfolds. People imagine one big appointment, when really it is a sequence of short, manageable stages with you in the loop at every point. For Wallington patients, we think the most useful thing we can do is simply walk you through it from start to finish, so there are no surprises.

What follows is the journey most people take, from the first conversation to the day you see your finished smile. It usually spans two to three appointments over a few weeks, and you will always know which stage you are at.

The journey, stage by stage

1. the consultation

This first visit is a conversation. We look at your teeth, listen to what is bothering you and talk through what veneers can realistically achieve. Nothing is touched, and you leave with a clear plan and a clear idea of the cost.

2. preparation

When you are ready to go ahead, we gently shape a thin layer of enamel from the fronts of the teeth being treated, done under local anaesthetic so it is comfortable. This makes room for the veneers to sit naturally rather than looking bulky.

3. impressions

We take precise impressions of your prepared teeth so your veneers can be custom-made to fit your mouth and match the look you agreed at the consultation.

4. temporary veneers

While the lab crafts your permanent veneers, we fit temporaries so you are never left with unsightly or sensitive teeth in the meantime. You carry on with normal life looking presentable.

5. bonding

At your fitting appointment we remove the temporaries and bond your finished veneers in place with a strong dental adhesive, checking the colour and shape as we go.

6. the bite check and follow-up

Finally we check your bite and make any small adjustments so everything feels right, and we go through how to care for your new veneers at home.

Porcelain veneers start from an indicative £995 per tooth, and 0% finance through Tabeo means you can spread the cost across the journey rather than meeting it all at once.

One dentist for the whole journey

Across all of those stages you see the same dentist, so the person who plans your veneers is the one who prepares, fits and finishes them. It keeps the whole journey joined up, and it means by your final visit you are working with a familiar face who knows exactly what you set out to achieve.

Frequently asked questions

  • How many appointments does the veneer process take?

Most veneer journeys are completed across two to three visits over a few weeks.

  • What happens at the very first appointment?

The first visit is a consultation only, where we assess your teeth, discuss your goals and set out a plan and cost, with nothing done to your teeth.

  • Will I have gaps or rough teeth while I wait for my veneers?

No, we fit temporary veneers between preparation and bonding so you look and feel normal in the meantime.

  • Is the preparation stage uncomfortable?

The teeth are numbed with local anaesthetic first, so the preparation should be comfortable.

  • What is the final appointment for?

The last visit is bonding your finished veneers and checking your bite, plus a run-through of how to care for them at home.
