The decade after fitting day matters most

It is easy to fall for a glossy before-and-after, but a veneer earns its keep in the quiet years that follow. We would rather Godstone patients judge us on how their smile holds up at year seven or year twelve than on a single photo taken the afternoon it was bonded.

Porcelain veneers, treated sensibly, sit comfortably in the five-to-fifteen-year range, and the upper end of that is not luck. It comes from how the veneer is planned, how cleanly it is bonded, and whether your bite is sharing the load evenly across your teeth. Sort those three things and a veneer stops being something you fret over and becomes part of how you look without a second thought.

Designing durability in from the start

We treat longevity as a planning job, not an afterthought. Before any enamel is shaped, we study how your upper and lower teeth meet, whether you clench in your sleep, and how a new facing will cope with everyday biting and chewing. A veneer that fights your bite is the one that chips or lifts early, so this part is never rushed.

The veneers are slim, custom porcelain laminates, with only a whisper of enamel reshaped so they seat flush. The work runs across two to three visits: planning and preparation, temporaries while the lab builds your finished veneers, then bonding and a careful bite check. Porcelain veneers begin at an indicative £995 per tooth, and 0% finance through Tabeo lets you spread that across the months rather than meeting it in one lump.

Looking after them at home

Veneers are refreshingly low-maintenance, but a handful of habits stretch their life noticeably. Brush and floss exactly as you would natural teeth, keep your routine reviews so we can catch early wear, and ease off using your front teeth as scissors for tape, packaging or stubborn nails. If you grind at night, a thin nightguard protects both the porcelain and the teeth underneath, and we will fit you for one if it is warranted.

At every check-up we cast an eye over your veneers too, because a tiny issue caught early is a small fix rather than a remake.

The run up the A22

Godstone sits a little south of us out near M25 Junction 6, but the trip in is an unfussy one of around fifteen minutes up the A22 to Foxley Lane in Purley. Whether you set off from the green at Godstone or from one of the lanes feeding off the high street, the road in is direct. There is free on-street parking right outside on Foxley Lane, which keeps those long-term review and aftercare visits quick rather than a chore.

Frequently asked questions

  • How many years should I expect porcelain veneers to last?

Well cared for and reviewed regularly, porcelain veneers commonly run between five and fifteen years, with planning and bite balance doing most of the work at the top of that range.

  • What tends to cut a veneer's life short?

Untreated grinding and an uneven bite are the two main offenders, which is exactly why we assess both before any tooth is prepared.

  • Will I need a nightguard?

Only if you grind or clench in your sleep, in which case a slim nightguard is well worth it to shield the porcelain and your own teeth.

  • If one veneer is ever damaged, do they all have to be redone?

No, a single veneer can usually be replaced on its own without disturbing the rest of the set.

  • Is there anything I should avoid eating?

Nothing is truly off-limits, though using your front teeth to bite very hard objects or open packaging is the quickest way to shorten a veneer's life.
