Bonding, veneers or whitening: working out what suits you

If you are in Sanderstead and weighing up how to improve your smile, the hardest part is often just knowing which option fits. Composite bonding, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening all get talked about as if they are interchangeable, but they solve different problems and come at very different price points.

This page is here to help you compare before you book, rather than after. And if you do want to talk it through in person, we are only a short drive away: from Limpsfield Road it is around 12 minutes uphill and across to our Foxley Lane practice in Purley, with free parking outside.

We would rather you chose the right treatment than the most expensive one, so here is an honest look at how bonding stacks up.

How composite bonding compares

Bonding versus veneers. Both can transform how your teeth look. The difference is what they cost you, in money and in tooth. Bonding adds resin to your existing teeth with little or no drilling, is largely reversible and starts from an indicative £250 per tooth. Veneers usually involve removing a thin layer of enamel, cost more and are a longer-term commitment. For chips, small gaps and edge reshaping, bonding is often the smarter starting point.

Bonding versus whitening. Whitening changes the colour of your natural teeth but cannot change their shape. If your teeth are healthy and well-shaped but a little dull, whitening alone may be all you need. If you also want to close a gap or repair a chip, bonding is the better fit, and some patients whiten first, then bond to match the new shade.

When bonding is the obvious pick

Bonding tends to be the right call when the issues are shape and small imperfections rather than deep staining across every tooth, when you want a faster result, and when keeping your natural tooth intact matters to you.

What to expect from the treatment

Composite bonding is pain-free and usually needs no injections. We apply tooth-coloured resin, sculpt it by hand around your existing teeth, then set it with a curing light and polish it to a natural finish. Most smiles take two to three appointments.

You stay with the same dentist throughout, which is how we keep the shade and shape consistent. Our cosmetic team includes Dr Nev Jeyakumar, Christine Marzahn and Ankit Patel, and your first appointment is a free, no-pressure consultation.

Frequently asked questions

  • Should I choose bonding or veneers?

Bonding is usually better for chips, small gaps and reshaping with little tooth removal, while veneers suit bigger, longer-term cosmetic changes.

With good care and regular check-ups it often lasts 5 to 7 years, and sometimes longer.

  • Is bonding cheaper than veneers?

Yes, bonding generally costs less per tooth and starts from an indicative £250, with finance available to spread the cost.

  • How do I decide what is right for me?
